How do you get chalcosis?

This is caused by an intraocular copper foreign body. You can actually think of copper causing two distinct diseases processes. A full-fledged endophthalmitis, versus a milder “chalcosis.” The milder chalcosis occurs with foreign bodies with lower copper concentrations. Remember that copper can cause:
1. Kayser-Fleischer Rings (like in Wilson’s disease)
2. Sunflower cataracts
3. ERG changes
